I bought this furnace a month ago and it keeps shutting down and flashes a code 18 and to me it isn’t worth the $9072.00 I paid for it.

The repair man came and said he will have to replace the control board but will take 3 weeks to get board from factory. This is unacceptable. The only reason this furnace is efficient is because it doesn’t work. Who knows when they finally fix this problem with the air conditioner not working, Is the furnace even going to work this coming winter.

I had this furnace installed along with a two stage AC unit. Cost $11k. Since I have turned on the heat in early November (one month ago) I have had to have 6 emergency (after hours) calls because the furnace shuts down. I always reads error code 87 (flameout). My contractor has replaced the propane valve (Trane installed the incorrect valve in their propane kit), and have done ALOT of other adjustments. The unit always seem to shut down when the thermostat calls for heat. This unit is not worth the money, it is extremely unreliable.

I had the Trane xc95m installed on Dec. 4, 2010. It is now Feb. 8,2011 and the Trane techs have replaced the blower motor 3 times, replaced the circuit board the first week, added a baffle to the direct venting, and we still have this annoying high frequency whine coming from the venting blower! the furnace overall works great, but this whine will not go away. The contractor is doing all he can, but this model may have a design flaw with the venting motor. It is driving us nuts, especially when you hear the whine at 4am. we are still working with Trane to find a solution. Frustrating!

We have similar problems. We are getting Error 22 warnings. Then an hour later it comes back on. This happened 2 days in a row on the 2 coldest days of the year. If you live in a zone where temps reach 5 degrees or below, I suggest that you wait to buy one until they get a fix. If anyone else is having this problem or knows of a fix for it please e-mail djleason2003@yahoo.com.

Had the XC95m installed as well as a Trane A/C, Trane AirClearner and Humidifier about three months ago and couldn’t be happier. I replaced an 80AFUE furnance. While its to early to tell about the A/C, the Fuirnance is great. My gas bill has been reduced by close to 30% each month from my prior years rates. Its quite and has worked with out any problems. While no product is 100% bug free I bought the Trane partly beciase of the service from the local HVAC Company and the warranty. The HVAC compay we use we have been with for close to 20years and they sell all brands. When I pressed them on what they recommended and why, what they had installed in their own homes etc. it became clear that they highly recommended Trane over other brands with very good reasoning. My prior system was Carrier and Lennox and I had nothing but issues with them every couple years. They finally died after just 8 years. I can’ty say how long these will last, but the warranty along gives me some confidence.

Had a new Trane furnance installed two years ago and its worked great. No problems. I had an expensive York system prior to this and it was a pain – A/C Coil leaked, replaced several inginitors, blower motor needed replaced after 3 years, circuit board shorted out. Feed up. I suppose all makes have some percentage of problems…make sure you research the installer as much as the brand.

Perhaps the best thing to do before learning how to repair gas furnace is to consider how to buy gas furnace, or even better, maybe learn how a furnace works. If you know what makes your furnace function, you will be better prepared if you need to learn how to repair gas furnace. A furnace fires up when the thermostat it is connected to initiates it to start.

Regarding the high frequency inducer fan noise, the solution to this problem requires installing an inline glass pack muffler. For more info, email diagnosticator1_at_comcast_dot_net

Bought and had installed for approx. $5,000. an XV95 propane TRANE furnace on September 13, 2011.

Didn’t get colder here in Thunder Bay, Ontario until mid November and all this thing does is blow cold air for ten minutes and then kicks in with heat. The other night both my husband and I were awake wondering if the furnace would kick off already. When it gets minus 30 degrees farhenheit next month, it won’t ever shut off and we only have a house under 900 sq. feet (insulated).

The installer came back and didn’t know how to adjust anything and tried and didn’t work and said he’d have to call the rep for the area.

Three weeks later and still hadn’t heard from him. With further conversations with other trade technicians for TRANE furnace it seems … it’s install it and nothing else can be done.

Another technican was called and due to weather he cancelled the week before and when called this week he said everyone wants things done before Christmas and can’t get out.

Another person from a wholesale place said he was a TRANE rep for this area would come out Nov. 21 at 10:00 am. by 11 a.m. husband called and he said after lunch. By three called again, no I’m not licensed to check the things you want. Call me in the a.m. Will we? NOT.

So … we have installed a new baseboard heater in the basement and bought an oil filled heater and have ceramic heaters as back up to keep our water pipes from freezing if the furnace dies. Luckily we have a wood fireplace insert in the living room.

Now we have to start researching and save money for a backup type of heat for the house.

    Not nice.

Merry Christmas all … keep warm

I purchased a Trane XC95m from direct energy in Dec 2010 THE FIRST MONTH (January) MY CONSUMPTION OF GAS WAS LESS THAN WITH THE FURNACE i REPLACED . a CLARE THAT WAS 20 YEARS OLD.
Since then the next four months were significantly higher than the old furnace.

December was incredible using 1400 cubic metre of gas, whereas the old furnace one year earlier had only used 200 cubic metres.

We have a repairman coming to see the furnace tomorrow. In addition this December(2011), as opposed to the previous december (2010), we were out of town for eight days, and had the temperature turned down to 59 degrees fahrenheit, and the rest of december was mild.

    Do NOT purchase this furnace.

Well….I’m getting kind of bad juju thinking I may have made a mistake, but come Monday I will have a new XC95M installed with the heat pump for AC. Pretty much a done deal, I bargained down the price about 600 so it came in with tax and everything at 9K. SO I don’t know, but I guess we will find out how it goes. The installers have been in the area for over 20 years, so I’m thinking they are pretty reputable. I guess its good that I have a boiler tech that knows everything about HVAC and if I need some help or advice he can help me out. I will update as time progresses.

    Cheers

I purchased a XC95M one year ago, and the ignitor just failed. There is no backup system, since it was winter, we had to get a serviceman on premium time to replace it. They tell me these can last one day to several years. With this uncertain realibility, I would hope they would install a backup system. System has been running great since purchase till now.

trane xc95m —-worst junk there is –repairmen comes and goes every two weeks–have not working property since installed 6 months ago– need to replace with other companys

  • Bill Tillman said:

Installed in 2009, in 2013 the thermostat showed the ignitor was bad. While waiting for that part to come in thermostat started showing error 18 on screen and then shutting off and starting all over again. Turns out that IFC board is now bad. I havent seen the price for that yet but it does not look inexpensive. Searchs on the net for simialr boards show about $500. Not a conforting thought for a unit only a couple years old. I think my advice may be to go with the less expensive units because they high end stuff did not seem to pan out reliable.

In the middle of a complete installation of a Trane XL21i 4 ton heat pump and a Trane XC95m gas furnace. Replacing all ductwork and matching the system up with the XL 950 comfort link 2 thermostat. We’re hoping to recoup the investment over time with lower electric and gas bill. We’re excited for it to be completed. Watched a few videos of the thermostat on you tube and it is unbelievable! Will let you know how it all went and when we go online.
